Element - Online action RPG.

Post by Absolute Zer0 on Tue Jun 09, 2009 5:17 am

An innovative online action RPG!

Yep, it's back, and with a vengeance. If you never saw the older versions of Element, they weren't exactly professional. The graphics were a mixed bag of styles with no real consistency, the engine was a little glitchy at best, and we never had more than five players online at a time. With this new installment, we're hoping to change all that. Element has been revamped multiple times, but pieces of the old engine always seem to work their way in. This time it's back to the drawing board. Element has been programmed from the ground up, (with the exception of 0NL1N3's engine) it has a totally new graphical style, and every feature from the older versions that users have come to expect is being reevaluated.

Download.

Low quality music version. (4.2 MB)
Mirror 1: box.net box.net03qprjblk7
Mirror 2: http://www.mediafire.com/?zunmmnmgmmu

Hi quality music version. (11.3 MB)
Mirror 1: box.net box.netxcij05cdnt

Controls:
Arrows: Move
Z: (In battle) Attack (Out of battle) Enter Doors
I: Inventory
Enter: Chat

*Supports gamepads.*

To enter a battle, simply walk into the red "agro" circle surrounding an enemy. All other enemies on screen will fight you too once you have engaged in battle. The current battle system is limited to only one attack, more attacks and skills will be added in the future.

Known bugs:

Non existing sprite error./Div by 0.
You can see player in rooms where they aren't.
No cooldown time for running into battle when you enter a room.
A few graphical bugs lying around.
If you register and log in, the game doesn't load your stats or information.

We're still on Hamachi, unfortunately, as my stupid router doesn't forward ports. You can play the game offline and do pretty much anything you could do online, but without the glitches. If you're interested in testing it online, though, you'll need to download an additional program and connect to our network to play.

Step 1:
Download Hamachi Here: http://www.hamachi.cc

Step 2:
Install Hamachi and start it up, do what it says and put in a username. Premium is NOT required to play.

Step 3:
Join one of our Networks.

Step 4:
Start up the game, and register! (In case of possible interception by hackers, you may want to use a fake password until we have some sort of encryption system set up.)

Network 1:
Name: Element Beta 1
Password: 1

I would, but I have an older version of it up there already, at the moment, plus I like Box.net better as a hosting service, anyway. If you mean because you want to use instant play, there's not much point. Instant play downloads the full game and stores it in your documents, then executes it. It seems convenient, but the file is still just sitting there on your computer either way, the only difference is that Yoyo stores them in an unreadable format so that you can only play them by going back to the site. The biggest reason for me, though, is that when I uploaded that earlier version of this, it had issues with instant play because of the DLLs and other external files. I'd just rather avoid having to deal with that.

If that is all he wanted, why can't he just use one of the mirrors I already uploaded, they're both reputable sites. Neutral

the game was good in graphics, and the style was amazzing.... the gameplay.... ok.... the rest failed... im sorry. the graphics were good, there just wasnt much to do, and nobody was ever online.

Also, this is just a movement and battle engine with a few perks at the moment, so there isn't much to do yet. I am working towards having most of the kind of content that was found in earlier versions, but improving on it, and adding to it, but I only started this one a couple weeks ago. (And until now I've been extremely busy with job applications and my college coursework, so I've been working at a slow pace.) If you're interested in seeing how that all looked, here's the last video I recorded of that from the older one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAogvArbSEs&feature=channel_page

Thanks for the comments, though, I always appreciate feedback. My intent for the next beta is a more fleshed out battle system, proper data saving/loading, and the growth system that was the driving concept behind earlier installments.

dyou need to get online, or can you try it offline

Test Play is offline, it only asks for a username. The online mode is really to test for glitches so far, and there are a lot of them.
